When Agent Phil Coulson introduces the organization he works for as the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics division, he usually gets a lot of blank stares. But when he tells people that he is the chief agent for S.H.I.E.L.D., that usually gets their attention.
The “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” television show picks up where the “Avengers” movie from 2012 leaves off. The superheroes that comprise the Avengers, or “the Avenger initiative” as it is referred to by Coulson, have just saved the world from an evil alien invasion in the Battle of New York. The show chronicles Coulson and his agencies attempts to combat the ongoing threat of supervillains, without the help of the Avengers.
Coulson is played by actor Clark Gregg, who also played Agent Coulson in all of the Avenger movies. Melinda May (played by Ming-Na Wen) and Grant Ward (played by Brett Dalton) are the two agents that work closest with Coulson within S.H.I.E.L.D.
Each and every week, the agents face a growing number of threats that seem to be getting more and more dangerous. With the help of special agents Skye (played by Chloe Bennett) and Leo Fitz (played by Iain De Caestecker), the agency does everything it can to keep the world safe from threats while the Avengers are off battling enemies on Earth and beyond.
The lure of the show is that it has regular human beings putting their lives on the line to face threats that are often not of this planet. Just when it looks like the agents are outmatched, Agent Coulson and his crew manage to find a way to save the world for another week.
